So In July I'll be taking part in my first "RESET YOUR LIFE" juice retreat, hosted by my friend Annie Wyatt... I think I warmed to Annie so instantaneously because she's a woman on a quest for self development (although much further down the line myself) and has immersed herself in the study of Taoism and in Psychological Astrology.
She integrates her knowledge in her work as a Traditional Indian Yoga teacher in Cape Town, blending Ashtanga (based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras) and Hatha (based on Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Gherend Samhita and other yogic texts) together. She has studied in India at Yoga Vidya Gurukul (ashram) under Rishi Dharmajyoti and teaches yoga as a means to develop consciousness and to make the mind body soul connection.
She also works with remedial Pilates to strengthen muscles and to correct structural integrity. She studied under Susan Arena Pepper, former ballerina based in Geneva Switzerland (developer of the Swiss Body Pilates method) and Master teacher Jennifer Paynter who has a deep knowledge of anatomy and is based in Cape Town South Africa.
Annie has a whopping 20 years of experience with cleansing practices both through diet and other cleansing techniques and in her own words has "completed too many cleanses to count in my life from water to juice to various yogic cleanses". Suffice to say I am more than a little excited to embark on this 7 day journey...
The One-Juice Retreat is designed to completely detoxify, reboot and recharge your mental and physical health and takes place in Tulbagh on a gem of natural Cape Vegetation with an abundance of wild-flowers and bird life. The the daily Yoga, mediation, Pilates and juicing activities take place at the private farmhouse and there's hiking too!
So why a juice retreat? Well, I don't have any opinion to offer at this point so I'll have to borrow from Annie's experience during her 28 day detox (!!!) in May:
"I have come to realise through my personal experience and through my work that cleansing at a physical level is really very important to heal the deeper emotional and psychological wounds that cause us not to care for ourselves. At a conscious level we really want the best for ourselves and yet, we persist with unhealthy eating. Cleansing the body using processes such as juice fasting is an entry point to cleansing the emotional body and the mind.
My mind is gaining in clarity day by day as my body is receiving maximum nutrition through the juices. My skin is changing, becoming smooth with a healthy glow. My hair is soft and my energy is soft. I'm really enjoying the discipline of the whole process. The yoga. Yoga means to 'yoke' to bring together and I am bringing together the different aspects of my being."
What you can expect on the retreat in July is:
- Ginger/lemon shots
- Cold pressed juices from One Juice
